Four Raptors Selected to Men's Soccer All-MD JUCO Team
After an excellent year for the Montgomery College Raptors men's soccer team, four Raptors earn notable post-season recognition and have been named to the 2020-2021 All-Maryland JUCO Teams.
After an excellent year for the Montgomery College Raptors men's soccer team, four Raptors earn notable post-season recognition and have been named to the 2020-2021 All-Maryland JUCO Teams.
Sophomore Joseph Kitengie and freshman Luis Aquino received First Team honors. Midfielder Khalb Mesfin and fullback Wilmer Escobar Jr., both sophomores, received Second Team honors.
Kitengie, originally from Benoni, South Africa, provided a dominant performance up top for his Montgomery College Raptors, scoring 19 goals and assisting four more in 10 games. The striker led the nation in scoring and was second in the country in points, finishing with 42 on the season.
Freshman attacking midfielder Luis Aquino, Derwood, Maryland promise in his first season, collecting six goals and three assists. Aquino finished with a goal in the two regional games that helped the Raptors get to the District Semi-finals.
A pair of sophomores - Wilmer Escobar Jr. and Khalb Mesfin were named All-MD JUCO Second Team. Mesfin, playing in a deep midfield role, provided four assists and one goal while helping the Raptors maintain possession. Escobar, playing primarily as a left fullback, was the only Raptors defender to play in every game this season. His leadership stabilized the Raptors defense.
