Raptors Outrun The Cougars
January 11, 2025
On Saturday, January 11th, the Montgomery College Raptors hosted the Frederick Community College Cougars in a Region 20 matchup. The Raptors dominated and won 88-67, snapping a 3 game losing streak.
The Raptor's dominance was clear from the first quarter. A combination of cold shooting (27.3%) and turnovers (10 in the quarter) allowed the Raptors to get out in transition and get easy layups around the rim. The Raptors were able to break the Cougar press with ease and get easy buckets. Kennedy Clifton asserted her dominance early, grabbing 9 rebounds in the quarter and a whopping 23 total rebounds. In the second quarter, Litzy Lujan-Gonzales and Tiana Carey found their connection. They combined for 5 steals, and did a great job looking up for easy fast break layups. Another 10 turnovers buried the Cougars, and the Raptors went into halftime leading 48-18.
The third quarter was more of the same for the Raptors, using their pressure defense to force more turnovers and they headed into the fourth quarter up 32 points. Even with the game seemingly over, the Cougars never stopped fighting. They found their shooting stroke, going 5-10 from three in the fourth quarter. The Cougars outscored the Raptors 32-18 in the fourth, but it was too little too late. This win moves the Raptors to 10-6 on the season, and 3-1 in Region 20 play.
