Raptors Capture 2025 NJCAA DII Region 20 Championship

Cecil, MD - The Montgomery College women's volleyball team capped off an incredible season by going undefeated in Region 20 play and carrying that dominance into the postseason. Entering the Region 20 Tournament as the top seed, the Raptors never dropped a single set across three matches, capturing the NJCAA Division II Region 20 Championship in dominant fashion.

Quarterfinals – MC vs Allegany College of Maryland

The Raptors opened tournament play with a convincing win over Allegany of Maryland, showing balance across the roster. Sofiia Mateshuk led the way with 16 kills on a .536 hitting percentage, while Hillary Malik added 10 kills and a solo block. Setter Janelle Orellana controlled the offense with 45 assists, spreading the attack efficiently. Defensively, Alaryss Medina anchored the back row with 21 digs.

Semifinals – MC vs Harford Community College

In the semifinals, Montgomery kept its momentum, defeating Harford in straight sets. Mateshuk again paced the Raptors with 14 kills (.370), and Malik added 8 kills and 2 block assists. Orellana recorded 32 assists and 2 service aces, while Medina tallied 12 digs. The Raptors' serving game was strong, with Sophia Dasilva contributing 3 aces and Rio Wexleradding 2.

The Raptors sealed their Region 20 crown with a dominant performance over Hagerstown. Mateshuk again led the offense with 14 kills on a .480 hitting percentage, while Palazzo delivered 11 kills (.450). Orellana was stellar once again, notching 36 assists, 2 aces, and a .800 hitting percentage of her own. Malik added 7 kills and 2 blocks, and Medina led the defense with 12 digs.

The Raptors' Region 20 title marks another milestone in a season defined by balance, depth, and consistency. Montgomery College will now host the NJCAA Division II District Championship on Saturday, November 8th at 4 p.m. in Rockville. The winner will earn a ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament later this month.
