Raptors Fall in District Championship
Rockville, MD - In the biggest home match of the season and in front of a tremendous, energized crowd—the Montgomery College Raptors battled through every point but ultimately fell to the Monroe Mustangs, 3–1, in the District Championship.
The Raptors pushed the Mustangs deep into the match, nearly forcing a decisive fifth set behind strong offensive bursts and resilient defense. Despite the loss, the team delivered one of its most competitive performances of the year.

The Raptors opened with momentum as Hillary Malik and Sophia Dasilva delivered early kills, paired with back-to-back service aces from Alaryss Medina and Emma Salas to pull MC within striking distance in the opening frame.

Sofiia Mateshuk and Caitlin Doherty added timely kills, while Hillary Malik dominated defensively with multiple block touches and back-to-back block points that tied the set at 4–4.

Late in the frame, Hillary Malik delivered a flurry of kills—several assisted by Janelle Orellana—and Jordyn Palazzo added a key finish, but Monroe held off the rally at 21–25.
Second-Set Push

The Raptors erupted with one of their strongest stretches of the match, sparked by Malik, who delivered kill after kill on an Orellana-fueled run, bringing MC within 7–2, then 10–3, and eventually tying the set at 18–18.

A Sofiia Mateshuk service ace, a tactical point from Orellana, and several Monroe errors swung momentum fully toward MC.

Jordyn Palazzo hammered home a kill to push the Raptors to a 24–15 lead, and a final Malik kill sealed the set, 25–15.
Third-Set Battle

Monroe responded early, but the Raptors clawed back behind Orellana's steady setting, a Valdivia service ace, and strong defensive touches from Malik.

Palazzo, Doherty, and Mateshuk stacked consecutive kills to keep MC close at 16–20 and 19–21.

Despite the push, Monroe edged out the frame, 21–25.
Fourth Set – Near Comeback

With the crowd roaring, MC delivered clutch plays: a Medina ace, a Doherty kill, and another Malik finish brought the Raptors within 20–22 and 23–24.

Palazzo, fed by Orellana, struck again to make it 24–23 as the gym erupted.

Monroe held on in the final rally, closing the match despite the Raptors forcing high-pressure points throughout.
